40x faster messages mean faster decisions

On the IDP network, a message could take up to 12 hours to arrive. On OGx, that same message arrives in as little as 20 minutes. For mission-critical monitoring and control applications, that’s the difference between catching an issue early and managing a costly escalation.

  • Message receipt up to 40x faster than the IDP network
  • Minutes instead of hours for time-sensitive alerts
  • Faster response windows for remote monitoring and control
  • Supports time-sensitive monitoring and control applications.

100x larger messages open new use cases

The previous generation capped messages at a fraction of what OGx supports. With a maximum message size of 1 MB—100x larger than before—you can now build applications that simply weren’t viable on satellite IoT networks.

  • Provide customers with solutions that can use images to check status at remote sites.
  • Push over-the-air firmware updates to deployed field devices.

Flexible, competitive data pricing

Most satellite IoT networks lock you into rigid plans that don’t fit how your solution actually uses data—forcing you into costly high-data tiers or penalizing you for overages. OGx is designed differently. Whether your solution sends data every few minutes or only needs a high-data burst for a scheduled firmware push, you can choose a data plan that better matches your solution’s usage patterns.

This flexibility is designed to give solution providers more control over margins and give your customers more predictable operating costs.

  • Choose a plan aligned with your application’s data requirements
  • Reduce overage charges
  • Economical for periodic high-data needs like OTA updates or scheduled log transfers
  • Flexible plans that work whether your solution requires lower or higher data usage.

Why solution providers build on SKYWAVE

OGx brings a new generation of purpose-built hardware. If you’re already deployed with SKYWAVE ST family terminals, they can be upgraded at no cost, so you don’t have to replace them.

New OGx-native devices:

SC 1000

A low-cost device built for industrial asset tracking and service-hour monitoring. It detects motion and shock, supports Bluetooth door and temperature sensors and is solar powered with no wired power or battery changes required in the field.

ST 4000

An embeddable hybrid satellite-cellular modem module for OEMs and solution providers who need to integrate connectivity directly into their own hardware. It uses cellular where coverage is available and switches to OGx satellite where it isn't—delivering always-on visibility for fixed, mobile and cell coverage-challenged applications.

ST 4300

A daughter-board form factor version of the ST 4000, designed to accelerate integration for OEMs and value-added manufacturers who need hybrid satellite-cellular capability without designing around a surface mount module. It combines cellular, satellite and GNSS in a single embeddable design with plug-and-play antenna connectors and a shared satellite/GNSS antenna architecture.

ST 8100

A satellite-cellular dual-mode terminal with Bluetooth. It automatically selects the best available connectivity between satellite or cellular and is fully programmable for custom solution development. Ideal for monitoring vehicles, vessels and fixed assets.

Already on ST family hardware? Upgrade at no cost. The ST 2100, ST 6000, ST 6100 and ST 9100 all support OGx through a no-cost firmware upgrade. You get lower power consumption, faster messages and access to the full OGx service without replacing hardware or changing your existing deployment.

OGx devices consume significantly less power than their IDP counterparts by reducing the time devices spend awake during communications and extending low-power sleep periods between transmissions. Because your devices need less power to operate, you can build solutions around smaller batteries and smaller solar panels, lowering hardware cost per unit and giving you room to pass savings to customers or protect margin.

Frequently asked questions

What is OGx and how is it different from the IDP network?

OGx is SKYWAVE’s next-generation satellite IoT service, building on IDP network with faster message delivery, larger payload capacity and more flexible data pricing. OGx supports messages up to 1 MB and delivers them up to 40x faster. It also introduces new power-saving mechanisms that significantly reduce device energy consumption.

How much faster is OGx than the previous generation?

Yes. OGx is available as a no-cost firmware upgrade for the ST 2100, ST 6000, ST 6100 and ST 9100 terminals. After upgrading, these devices gain access to OGx’s faster messaging, lower-power consumption and the full range of OGx service capabilities—no new hardware required.

Can I use OGx with my existing ST family devices?

OGx delivers message receipt speeds up to 40x faster than the IDP network. A message that could take up to 12 hours on IDP can arrive in as little as 20 minutes on OGx. This improvement makes OGx suitable for time-sensitive monitoring and control applications requiring faster delivery and larger data transfer.

What message sizes does OGx support?

OGx supports messages up to 1 MB in size which is 100x larger than the previous IDP network. This significantly expands what’s possible in a satellite IoT application, including data-intensive use cases that couldn’t run over the previous service.

Can OGx send images and over-the-air updates?

Yes. OGx’s 1 MB message size supports image transmission and over-the-air firmware updates to remotely deployed devices.

How does OGx pricing work for low and high data needs?

OGx uses flexible data plans that let solution providers pay for the data they actually use, whether that’s frequent low-volume reporting or periodic high-data transfers. This removes the need to lock into costly high-data plans for solutions with variable usage and reduces overage charges. This pricing flexibility helps solution providers match connectivity costs more closely to their application requirements.

Do I need to replace my hardware to move from IDP to OGx?

No, if you’re on ST 2100, ST 6000, ST 6100 or ST 9100 hardware, a no-cost firmware upgrade activates OGx service on the device you already have deployed.
