Recognized ASP for 21 maritime organizations endorses SkyWave's LRIT system

London, United Kingdom and Ottawa, Canada – 13 February, 2009 - SkyWave Mobile Communications (“SkyWave”), a global provider of two-way Inmarsat satellite products and services is pleased to announce that Pole Star Space Applications (“Pole Star”), a leading supplier of tracking, security, fleet management and Long Range Identification Tracking (LRIT) systems supports and recommends the SkyWave LRIT system for Flags and ship owners looking for a cost-effective LRIT system.

David Plumer, Pole Star CEO states, “Pole Star has tested SkyWave’s new LRIT system and we are pleased to confirm that it meets the IMO LRIT Performance Standards and Functional Requirements. We are impressed with SkyWave’s response to this technical challenge and are fully supportive of their overall solution which we intend to recommend to our Flag clients and subsequently offer to the commercial marine sector as a LRIT solution.”

The SkyWave LRIT system consists of the SkyWave’s DMR-800LRIT shipborne terminal, SkyWave’s global IsatM2M satellite service and the SkyWave Versa Automated Provisioning gateway (Versa) for a complete system that is easy to install and use.

The DMR-800LRIT terminal is the only equipment that is allowed to be registered on the SkyWave LRIT system. SkyWave’s Versa allows a Flag’s Recognised Application Service Providers (ASPs) to manage the LRIT communication between the ship and the Flag’s National LRIT Data Centre, as well as transfer equipment between Flags. Versa also allows Authorised Testing ASPs to test and certify equipment on the SkyWave’s LRIT system.

“SkyWave is pleased to be working with Pole Star to provide Flags and ship owners with a reliable, cost-effective and LRIT compliant solution”, says Dan Poirier, Senior VP of Sales & Marketing for SkyWave.

SkyWave DMR-800LRIT terminals are available through SkyWave, Pole Star and their distributor network.
