Brazilian Maritime Company Meets Tracking Needs Through SkyWave-Based Telematics Solution

Transporter of petroleum products relies on Onixsat Telecom, SkyWave and Inmarsat satellite services to meet contractual regulations

Ottawa, Canada – May 11, 2011 – W. Pereira Navegação, a provider of river transportation services across the Amazon basin and other waterway systems, recently signed an agreement with SkyWave Solution Provider, OnixSat Telecom, for maritime tracking services of its fleet of vessels.

Under its contract with Petrobrás to provide transportation services in the oil and natural gas-rich province of Urucu, W. Pereira Navegação is contractually required to reliably track and monitor the location of vessels and cargo.

“As the primary transporter of basin exploration and oil production equipment, we need to be able to reliably provide Petrobrás the exact location of their cargo at all times,” said Paulo Wando, W. Pereira Navegação’s Executive Manager. 

Based on this requirement for quality and reliability, the company selected the Onixsat Telecom maritime tracking system, which uses information provided by SkyWave and Inmarsat satellite services, to track and monitor its transportation vessels.

The OnixSat tracking system is working so well that the transportation company has already planned to track new additions to its fleet.  “We have already purchased new Onixsat’s trackers for vessels under construction because the demand for our maritime transportation services has been growing ” said Mr. Wando.
