Major US Power Company Deploys SkyWave Satellite Technology
Using SkyWave satellite technology, TransCore, provides rail asset tracking services to one of North America’s largest producers of electricity.
Ottawa, Canada – August 12, 2010 – TransCore, a valued SkyWave Solution Provider, announced it is providing satellite tracking and rail asset visibility services to one of the largest U.S. producers of electricity. The technology provides real-time location, routing, scheduling, and maintenance information on a fleet of approximately 16,000 rail cars that transport coal to its power plants throughout the Southeast United States.
TransCore’s system uses SkyWave’s tracking terminals and satellite network to provide exact location and status of individual rail cars. In addition, TransCore provides a user-friendly web-based interface that provides command and control over the railcar operation.
Using this technology, rail logistics managers can access information about train and railcar direction and status to synchronize unloading, storage, facilities planning, and inventory. The maintenance division can view car-by-car status and history to cost-effectively schedule repairs without interrupting services.
