A little bit about the role:
SkyWave currently has a fulltime permanent opening for a Field Application Engineer to join our team. The successful incumbent will provide proactive support to our international partners to assist them during their application development and implementation with SkyWave products. This role requires both business and technical acumen, with an emphasis on a strong technical background.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are a requirement as candidates must be able to hold regular meetings with key regional partners to review technical challenges, provide ad hoc training, review new features on our product road map, analyze and provide guidance on the use of SkyWave products and services, and act as technical consultants. Additionally the successful incumbent will be expected to drive key feedback to our Sales organization, Product Management, Research & Development and other teams within SkyWave to help us in the development of future products and services which meet market needs.
The primary responsibilities of the Field Application Engineer include:
- Working with our strategic regional partners to support their use of our products and services through a mix of training, consulting and design services, and to act as a customer advocate into SkyWave.
- Assisting our regional and corporate sales teams to meet revenue targets, by reducing the sales cycle through proactive in-depth technical support and custom design services.
- Developing a deep understanding of our clients’ solutions and value-add, growth opportunities, business processes, strategic partnerships, and more to ensure SkyWave’s products and services meet their ongoing requirements.
- Influencing SkyWave product evolution via technical subject matter expertise in key partner requirements, working with our corporate Product Management and Research and Development teams to define new products, features and services that will help our partners grow their business.
- Development of concept projects, such as interfacing with third party devices, to incubate ideas for partners that can add even more value to their solutions.
- Advanced technical post-sales support based on product and customer application expertise, to help quickly resolve field issues if required.
The successful incumbent will meet the following requirements:
- First and foremost, we are looking for candidates with a positive customer service attitude. This combined with strong drive and the ability to work independently will ensure success in this role.
- A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering is mandatory.
- At least 5 years of embedded system design and programming experience.
- Owing to the international nature of the company’s business, the ability to work flexible irregular working hours and travel up to 30% of the time is required.
- A combination of solid written and verbal communications skills, strong creative/analytical skills and an aptitude for troubleshooting and debugging are essential.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the following areas:
- Application engineering/ technical support roles
- Web services software design
- Satellite communications
- Electronic and electrical design
- Technical writing
- Fluency in languages other than English (in particular Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Standard Chinese)
