Whitepaper Discusses the Advantages of PAC-C Satellite Service for IsatM2M Users 打印 电子邮件
SkyWave is the first and only IsatM2M provider offering consistent coverage over 5 Ocean Regions.

Ottawa, CANADA – July 30, 2008 - SkyWave Mobile Communications, a worldwide provider of two-way IsatM2M satellite products and network services, has released a whitepaper outlining the role of Inmarsat’s Pacific Central (PAC-C) satellite in providing superior coverage for applications situated in the western half of North America, including Mexico, and the eastern Pacific regions.

The whitepaper, entitled ‘How PAC-C Improves Service for SkyWave IsatM2M Users’, explains the importance of PAC-C coverage as a critical success factor in the selection of an IsatM2M satellite service provider for remote asset monitoring, control and messaging applications.

A terminal’s position relative to the satellite determines its ability to send and receive messages. Elevation angle and signal strength are strongest for terminals positioned directly below a satellite. Mountains, buildings and trees can block a terminal’s line of sight to the satellite, further reducing visibility. Terminals situated in cities such as Calgary, AB and San Francisco, CA are not adequately positioned relative to the Atlantic Ocean Region-West (AOR-W) and the Pacific Ocean Region (POR) satellites. With the addition of PAC-C satellite coverage, positioned at 142 degrees West longitude, shadow effects are eliminated and these cities gain stronger coverage. The following table shows examples of elevation angle improvements after the availability of the PAC-C satellite service:

 Elevation Angle
With AOR-W or POR

Elevation Angle
With PAC-C
 Calgary, AB

 Seattle, WA 12º 31º

“The addition of PAC-C service to the SkyWave network gives our customers in the marine, fixed and land mobile markets extended coverage on the Pacific West Coast and the far North, and redundant coverage in the Midwest,” says Dan Poirier, VP of Sales & Service for SkyWave. “For Solution Providers experiencing less-than-optimal coverage in these areas, this whitepaper will clearly outline SkyWave’s competitive advantage over other IsatM2M service providers.”

PAC-C is a 5th satellite in the SkyWave IsatM2M network. SkyWave remains the first and only IsatM2M network service provider with approval to operate on the PAC-C satellite. SkyWave’s IsatM2M network service has been operational on the PAC-C satellite since 2007.
