All products are designed for use with the trusted SkyWave D+ or SkyWave IsatM2M network services and are backed by SkyWave’s industry-leading customer service.
A little bit about the role: SkyWave currently has a fulltime permanent opening for an IT Network and Systems Administrator. In this role, the successful incumbent will be trained in and work with a team responsible for the management and implementation of SkyWave’s Systems, Network administration, Windows/Linux systems and end user support within our distributed work environment. This hands-on technical support role will work with a team responsible for designing, developing and implementing interfaces between hardware and software to develop and integrate cohesive systems and products. The successful incumbent will be trained to determine systems architecture specifications and working parameters for hardware and software compatibility and co-ordinate the development of subsystems and integrate the total system. As a member of a cross-functional team, the Network/Systems Engineer will be responsible for:
• Availability, reliability and consistency of the network • Capacity and infrastructure planning • Purchase, installation and maintenance of communication network(s) and associated hardware and peripherals • Ensuring effective integration for optimal performance. • Resolving capacity, security, performance or compatibility issues • Providing training, documentation and programming as required
Additionally, as required, the candidate will be responsible for:
• Install, configure and maintain Microsoft desktop/laptop systems and business specific software applications • Support a standardized desktop, laptop and remote-computing environment • Technical on-line and onsite support to all users & clients for applications & technical issues • Perform Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 Server, Exchange 2003, SQL Server, MySQL and Linux administration including: system installation, configuration, account management, backups, event logs review and virus protection administration • Maintain and administer network devices • Maintain and administer Server Room operations (Capacity, Power, UPS) • Monitor access to the networks by addressing issues of data security, password generation and file access at the service area level • Monitor server uptime, performance, network capacity and security issues • Support various facilities related needs
In this role, the successful incumbent will use considerable independent judgment and initiative to resolve problems and make recommendations, determining when and if executive action is required and supply a recommendation where appropriate. They will need to be able to prioritize work, and manage multiple projects at the same time.
A technical degree is required in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, and a MCSE, A+ Certification would be preferred. The successful candidate will require experience in System/Network Administration for Windows operating systems and end user support within a distributed work environment. 1-2 years recent experience working is preferred. Superior organizational skills and outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with all levels of Executive/Senior staff and clients is a must. Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to deal with constantly changing requirements and priorities is important in this role. Due to the technical nature of this role, recent work experience in the following areas is preferred:
• Windows 2000/2003 Server • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP • Exchange 2003 Server, Outlook 2003 • Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista • Microsoft SQL Server • MS Office 2003 Suite • Symantec AV Corporate Edition (Symantec Mail Security for Exchange) • Enterprise Backups • PBX/VoIP • Linux • VMware • MySQL Server • Firewall/VPN administration (Juniper, Cisco) • Various off-the-shelf desktop software packages
Candidates must be legally able to work in Brunei, be available to relocate to Ottawa, Ontario Canada for a minimum one-year assignment and have the ability to pass all visa and work permit requirements for Canada. Given the international nature of this role, flexible work hours and the ability to travel are required.
